Okinawa Episode

I really enjoyed this episode. It really explained the meaning and horrifying things about war. I sat there watching this in disbelief. At one part of the show the Japanese blew up a woman and her baby as a trap for the us. I was in awe because that's unimaginable to witness such a killing. The movie also showed really how many deaths there were. It showed men buried in the dirt and their skeletons stuck in the mud. I would have gone crazy. The episode showed men going crazy too. Especially eugene sledge, he became so cold hearted and thought killing was something natural. It showed that men from the war would probably never recover mentally. They lost their sanity when witnessing children and mother murdered and their lives being on the line all day everday. I would never have the strength to survive that

The Pacific

In class we watched two episodes of the Pacific. I really like when we watch those episodes because it gives us the perspective of who these people really are. It shows us that they aren't just soldiers. They have families and friends. They are fighting for us and our country. The show really proves these men as heros. In the episode with the men on the desert and not drinking water, it showed how truly awful they felt in the war. It also showed the dangers when men were being killed left and right. Watching, I got overwhelmed for them because they had no idea where the Japanese were. It is unreal and i cant even imagine being in that situation with them.

What do the young marines teach each other?

I think all the men taught each other so much. They showed each other that everyone is scared and its okay to be scared. The men also taught each other to be brave and be there for each other. When men were doubtful, the other marines would give them motivation and words to help him get through the war. It was really cool to see that in the movie we were watching.

How do the tactics and fighting of the young americans differ from the Japanese?

It seems that the Japanese rely on sneaking around and hiding on the battlefield. Whenever there is war, their faces are never shown. To me, that's kind of being a coward because they are at war and need to face that. The us takes the fight and faces it. Looking at our Victories that is the better way to fight.
